Grayling Season past.

So the Grayling close season has arrived but the Trout open season is not quite here.

The river has not been in the best condition for Grayling fishing  this winter, floods, coloured water and all that but if you did get out we’d like to hear how well you did.

Please let the club know, either comment here or e-mail the club.

Thank you.

Junior Rod Licence Fees

Did you know, Junior anglers do not pay a fee for a rod licence under the age of 12.

From 12 to 16 the fee is £5. Go ahead, introduce a young person to the life long pleasure of angling.

More information can be found from the EA using the link at the side of the page.

Non Native Species; Check: Clean:Dry.

Check those rods, clean your lines and load your reels. The trout season is almost here and as you prepare your tackle please remember the dangers of non-native species.

Red Clawed Crayfish have been found in the Wear, we would not want to spread those to other waters which are not affected. At the same time we do not want to see other dangerous species such as Killer Shrimp arrive here.

So please remember: CLEAN : CHECK : DRY. as the starting point to avoid spreading non-native species on your fishing tackle, waders or clothing.

The leaflet and more information is available from, amongst others, the Angling Trust and is shown here.

Take care, protect our own river and just as important if your fish other waters do not spread any problems to them.

Tight Lines in 2016.

Trout Fishing on the River Wear.

Not only Brown Trout, we also offer excellent Salmon and Sea Trout fishing too, not to mention increasing popularity with Grayling anglers, what’s more we are now welcoming members from further afield.

WADAC_Willington_Waters

Single and double bank fishing, just part of the fishing we offer on club waters at Willington (marked in red).

This is great water on the middle stretches of the River Wear, easily accessible from the North, South, East or West where we have always worked to keep our membership fees as low as possible. Don’t be fooled by the prices, great fishing doesn’t have to come with a high price. Take the example of an angler this year who fished the Tweed for a week, and blanked, as he travelled back to the south he stopped off at Willington where he finally avoided that blank.

Members return the majority of fish but stocking with triploids allows anglers to enjoy one for the pan without feeling guilty.
