Here we see anglers gathering at Tunstall Reservoir on Sunday in preparation for the KD Johnson Competition.
The KD Johnson Trophy
And the winner is: B Conlon won the competition with a bag of four fish to 6lb 13oz. Stuart Pearsall was just an ounce behind with his four fish haul (6lb 12oz) , followed by John Hartland (6lb 5oz) with Eric Johnson, Ken Dixon and Trevor Conway close behind.
Our thanks to the fishery at Tunstall for the warm welcome and an excellent day had by all.
A few weeks ago we brought you a reminder of the risk of tick bites, whether you’re out there fishing or enjoying the countryside in summer. The link below will take you to the story of Matt Dawson who is now eager to raise awareness of this issue.
Matt Dawson Tick Bite Experience
There’s no need to over react but please take a little time to look at Matt Dawson’s story and then think about a few simple precautions.
- Ticks drop or crawl onto animals and humans from trees, bushes and undergrowth. If you’re out in these areas the simplest precaution is to cover bare skin.
- Consider carrying a tick removal tool available from many pet shops.
- If you are bitten and/or suffer any of the symptoms tell your GP about the bite and that you are at risk of Lyme Disease.
- Early treatment with antibiotics makes all the difference.
Crook Beck clean up Sunday 20/08/2017
A message from the Club Secretary
I have been in touch with Wear Rivers Trust and have met down at the beck with their Senior Project Officer Steve Hudson. I can confirm that permission has been granted by the land owner (D.C.C.) for the clean up to take place and this will be an event organised by Wear Rivers Trust. Steve will be attending on the day to take part and supervise.
We will be meeting on Sunday 20/08/2017 at 09:00 at the end of Glenholme drive next to Bradbury House (I’ve attached a maps image of the meeting point). To be covered by Wear Rivers Trust insurance you need to be a registered volunteer. I have attached a link to their registration form. This can be completed and emailed to the address on the form or it can be brought along on the day. If you wish to complete a form on the day myself and Steve will be at the meeting point from 08:45with a stock of forms. You can still take part in the event without registering but will not be covered by insurance.
Bags, litter picking tools and gloves will be provided, all you need is a pair of boots or wellies and yourself. All rubbish will be taken away on the day and any large items will be removed by the council next day.
Chatting with Steve, he said that this will be their first project on the beck and if there is some local support there may be a chance of further projects taking place not just to remove rubbish from the beck, but also to improve the environment for wildlife in the area.
This is a great opportunity to improve an area of Crook. Let’s get out there and get stuck in!
The K D Johnson Cup is to be held next Sunday 20th August.
