We’d love to hear from you if you have enjoyed any time fishing this week.

Sure enough the Trout season arrived with wind , rain and snow with the river running very high and coloured, but it may be that in quieter spells you enjoyed a little sport.

Lets hope the river settles quickly and trout come out to feed.

AGM 2017

The 2017 club AGM was held last night at Willington Cricket Club. Our thanks go to the cricket club for hosting the event.

Why wouldn’t you want to fish at Willington?

The AGM was very well attended with  40% of the club membership turning up. These members were very highly engaged with the discussions and the future of the club. Thank you to all who attended and showed passion and commitment to fishing and the club.

The great news is that the fees remain unchanged. members may apply by post to the secretary, please ensure that you complete at form available on this site, your correct payment and an SAE. Alternatively fees will be taken at the cricket club on March 7th 2017, between 7:15pm and 9:30pm.

It was with regret that the secretary needed to address the topic of malicious damage and other actions detrimental to the club, including a statement from our solicitor.

Here we see some examples of malicious damage, some of which could have resulted in serious injury. The club needs your help to identify the individuals involved.

The great news is that apart from these few our members really do care about the club and we have some very skilled and knowledgeable anglers. The trophies were presented for the 2016 club competitions. Congratulations to all and a big thank you again to Angler’s Lodge at Jubilee Lakes who so generously sponsor our senior competition and the Grayling day.

A number of rule changes were voted upon, please be sure to read your membership book when it comes along, also the rules page on this site will be updated at that time.

The main item of note being that we have properly identified that our waters hold a good head of Grayling and we are therefore making a Grayling Season Permit available for the winter months at £25, this will give the club the opportunity to attract Grayling fishermen who we hope will enjoy our waters and become full members in future.

Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to the growing strength of the club over the past year. To those who help with bank work, to the bailiffs who work so hard to keep those who refuse to pay their way off our waters to the committee who work hard to keep the club strong. These people all give up their own time for no reward other than satisfying their passion for fishing and for this club.

Thank you.

Grayling Day a Great Success.

The 1st Willington Angling Club Grayling Day took place yesterday ( November 20th 2016) and a great day was had by all.

A good turn out with rods from the club and the Grayling Society who enjoyed hot drinks, soup and pies to ward of the November chill. The river was running a little high with some colour, the weather was very much a challenge, cold and windy but the hot drinks helped massively.

Many rods chose to fish nymphs hard to the bottom, trotted worm also proved successful.

So, conditions were far from perfect but anglers caught plenty of Grayling ( a few trout gate crashed the party too)all

enjoying the benefits of their effort. All fish were safely returned, one rod had 21 fish and duly won the prize of a Rio Euro Nymph fly line so kindly donated Anglers Lodge at Jubilee Lakes.

We hope to repeat the day annually and that the Grayling Society will help the club to monitor the health of our Grayling population in years to come.

Visiting Anglers took away membership application forms which must be the best recommendation we could ask for.

Many thanks to all who contributed to a great day. Shaun  the secretary, Debra and Cieran who braved the cold to supply the refreshments; Trevor Conway for the pies and Stuart Wardle and the Grayling Society for their help and advice.
